GDR childrens’ song

When mummy goes to work early
Then I stay at home
I tie an apron round me
And do the dusting

I can’t do any cooking yet
I’ll end up getting hurt
But I usually get all the dirt
So mummy will not fret

I have a little dolly
That’s so dear and jolly
I can be the best mummy to it
And I can do that all by myself

Wenn Mutti früh zur Arbeit geht,
Dann bleibe ich zu Haus.
Ich binde eine Schürze um
Und feg die Stube aus.

Das Essen kochen kann ich nicht,
Dazu bin ich zu klein.
Doch Staub hab ich schon oft gewischt.
Wie wird sich Mutti freu’n!

Ich habe auch ein Puppenkind,
Das ist so lieb und fein.
Für dieses kann ich ganz allein
Die richt’ge Mutti sein.
